Transported Cooled Semen Procedures at Painted Fox Farm

1. Send a copy of mare’s registration papers to Breeder.

2. Notify Breeder the address where semen should be shipped.

3. Provide Breeder the name, address and telephone of veterinarian that will be inseminating mare.

4. Pay all fees prior to semen being shipped.

5. You or your vet should contact Breeder at least twice:

-When your vet first approximates the date of ovulation.

-When your vet wants semen to be shipped via Federal Express only.

6. Call us by 2:00 P.M. Central time on collection days. They are Monday, Wednesday and Friday- no exceptions.

-For semen to arrive Tuesday, order by 2:00 P.M. Monday,

-For semen to arrive Thursday, order by 2:00 P.M. Wednesday.

-For semen to arrive Saturday, order by 2:00 P.M. Friday.

7. Your veterinarian should palpate your mare frequently, and you will need to tease her diligently. Your veterinarian will make a “best guess” on predicting ovulation, but mares are notorious for variation. Do not expect your mare to cooperate perfectly every heat cycle. You may need additional shipments two days apart, or you may miss altogether and need to try again next heat.

8. When you receive your Equitainer, do not open the container: only the veterinarian should open it, and only when he/she is ready to inseminate. If you wish to inspect semen quality, do so only after insemination.

9. Use the entire contents of the plastic pouch with in 48 hours. If not used, discard the semen and return the container with packaging pouches. Under no circumstances should the semen be used for any other mare other than booked.

10. Return the Equitainer immediately. When finished using semen, please Fed Ex it back Fed Ex 2 day.

11. Notify Breeder when your mare is checked in foal. We recommend an ultrasound 17 to 18 days after insemination, to be repeated 30 to 40 days later.
     
12. If your mare is not in foal after 3 cycles, we will confer with you and your vet.
